This is a senior, strategic role for a seasoned communications professional who can manage press and media relationships across two key markets. You'll take ownership of the UK PR agency relationship and run South African media relations directly, working closely with sales teams to turn press coverage into bookings and brand growth.
Core Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing or Communications
- 10+ years in corporate communications or PR, including at least 3 years in travel or conservation tourism
- Strong understanding of the safari and luxury travel industry is a strong advantage
- Proven track record managing external PR agencies and media relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write compelling press releases and story angles
- Experience briefing marketing teams and producing collateral for high-end media
- Confident working across multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under deadline pressure
- Genuine interest in wildlife, sustainability and conservation
Core Responsibilities:
- Set and drive the annual PR strategy for the UK and South African markets, aligned to overall business and marketing goals
- Manage the UK PR agency relationship, including regular status calls and formal reviews
- Build and maintain media relationships, press events and press release distribution across both markets
- Coordinate media bookings with the reservations team to secure high-value press coverage
- Write and edit press releases, story pitches and media content, and fact-check externally produced copy
- Identify newsworthy angles and conduct interviews with internal stakeholders to develop content
- Research and manage award submission opportunities across trade, consumer and sustainability categories
- Work closely with sales teams in both markets to align PR and sales strategy
- Compile coverage reports and track PR performance against targets
- Uphold brand consistency across all external communications
