This role suits a hands-on operations professional who's equally comfortable managing hospitality standards and marine logistics in a remote, adventure-tourism setting. You'll oversee everything from camp setups and staff leadership to fleet maintenance and river safety, reporting directly to the Country Manager.
Core Criteria:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in safari lodge, camp, or tourism operations management
- Experience managing marine, boating, or river safari operations
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Experience operating in remote safari environments
- Knowledge of safety management systems and emergency response procedures
- Strong logistical and organisational ability
- Financial and administrative competence
- Excellent communication and guest relations skills
- Valid driving licence
- Fluent English
- Marine operations or skipper certification advantageous
- Experience in East African safari tourism advantageous
Core Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the mobile camp, including setups, breakdowns, logistics and stock movements
- Ensure accommodation, dining, housekeeping and guest areas meet required standards
- Supervise camp staff, including chefs, waiters, housekeeping and support teams
- Coordinate all guest arrivals, departures and transfers
- Manage daily scheduling and coordination of boat departures, including boats, skippers, guides, fuel and equipment
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of the vessel fleet and outboard engines
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate servicing and repairs
- Ensure all vessels and equipment comply with marine safety standards, including regular inspections of lifejackets, radios and first aid kits
- Enforce operational safety procedures and ensure compliance with Uganda Wildlife Authority regulations
- Conduct regular safety drills and emergency response training
- Develop and maintain SOPs for camp, boating and evacuation procedures
- Recruit, train, supervise and motivate operational staff, including work schedules and duty rosters
- Conduct performance evaluations and mentor local staff
- Handle guest feedback and resolve operational issues promptly
- Maintain premium guiding and interpretive standards
