Core Criteria:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in lodge service, waitering, bar service, or guest hosting
- Exceptional English fluency, written and spoken, is essential and non-negotiable
- Afrikaans an advantage
- Confident, well-spoken, and comfortable engaging with international guests
- Ability to prepare basic coffees, cocktails, and lodge-standard beverages; bar experience essential
- Ability to read, retain, and confidently present wine descriptions and menu pairings to guests
- Competent with POS systems and accurate stock management
- Strong and reliable employment history; references will be verified
- Clear criminal record; candidates must be willing to undergo a criminal record check and polygraph examination
- Must be able to arrange reliable personal transport to and from a remote location (approximately 30 km of gravel road from Vaalwater)
- South African citizens or candidates with valid work authorisation
- Comfortable living and working in a quiet, remote rural environment
Core Responsibilities:
Dining & Service Support:
- Assist with meal service, table setup, clearing, and resetting across all dining periods
- Deliver warm, attentive, and professional service throughout all guest dining experiences
- Confidently present wine descriptions and menu pairings to guests
- Ensure dining areas remain clean, organised, and guest-ready at all times
Guest Hosting & Communication:
- Welcome guests on arrival and conduct room and lodge orientation tours
- Manage guest schedules, activity times, and daily operational flow
- Communicate guest requests promptly and accurately to all relevant departments
- Maintain a warm, professional presence throughout the duration of the guest's stay
Bar & Beverage Support:
- Assist with bar service and preparation of drinks, coffees, and cocktails to lodge standard
- Take drink orders and operate the POS system correctly and accurately
- Control bar stock, monitor usage, conduct regular stock takes, and report low stock promptly
- Ensure bar areas remain clean, well-stocked, and organised at all times
Guest Experience & General Lodge Support:
- Anticipate guest needs and act proactively to protect the overall guest experience
- Step in during high-pressure moments, including urgent turn-downs, room resets, and guest requests
- Assist other departments, including housekeeping and kitchen, when operational needs require
- Uphold lodge hygiene, safety, and presentation standards at all times
- Report maintenance issues promptly and support smooth operational flow during arrivals and departures
