Position: Studies Coordinator
Full time: 12 months
Zvitambo is an internationally recognized multidisciplinary public health research institute
with the mission of helping children survive and thrive through research. We work in
partnership with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) to conduct research and
provide technical support to reduce the burden of malnutrition and infectious diseases,
and give children a good start in life. Zvitambo operates from a head office in Harare, and
a field site in Shurugwi, where we conduct clinical trials and observational cohort studies,
with embedded laboratory and qualitative sub-studies.
Job Purpose
Zvitambo is seeking a Studies Coordinator who brings extensive experience in public
health research, with strong administrative skills. This position provides a link between the
Principal Investigators for each of our studies, and the Study Leads who manage the
fieldwork. The postholder will work closely with the Principal Investigators to ensure each
research study is conducted rigorously and in a timely manner. They will oversee all
aspects of the research cycle, from development of study forms and SOPs, to obtaining
regulatory approvals, launching the study, and supporting the fieldwork. Administratively,
the postholder will attend all study meetings, ensure that all study documents are filed
electronically and in hard copy, and provide oversight of study budgets. This post will be
based in Harare but involves considerable travel to Shurugwi where the majority of our
fieldwork is taking place. The postholder will be supported by the Principal Investigators
and the Senior Management team at Zvitambo.
Main Duties
Coordinate all stages of study design and conduct
Oversee the development of study documents
Oversee all study-related administrative issues
Ensure documents are ready for timely regulatory submissions
Ensure all staff are compliant with regulatory certifications
Plan and track study budgets
Approve study purchases of research consumables
Oversee the training and launch of each study
Oversee the coordination of field work
Attend all study meetings and other administrative meetings related to research outcomes
Develop, oversee, and check manual and electronic filing systems for all study documents
Coordinate and draft study reports
Qualifications
Essential
Master’s degree or higher in public health, nursing, or a relevant subject
Impressive organizational skills with a strong appreciation for the importance of attention to detail in conducting rigorous research
Strong project management skills
3 years’ proven experience in conducting and managing research studies (experience of clinical trials of investigative medicinal products is desirable)
Deep understanding and hands-on experience of the research cycle – from design and preparation, to conduct of studies, and regulatory reporting requirements
Expert in Word, and proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in mentoring junior staff
Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate multidisciplinary teams
Well versed in regulatory frameworks governing clinical research, such as Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines.
Keen understanding of the research ecosystem in Zimbabwe.
Clean class 4 driver’s licence
Desirable:
Experience of clinical trials of investigative medicinal products
Fluent in qualitative research and the integration of qualitative and quantitative research methods
Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at scientific conferences.
Experience working with communities to co-design interventions especially in a rural setting
