Job Details
iqbusiness is seeking to employ a Senior Product Designer on a 12-month contract to collaborate with an international partner from our offices in Welgemoed, Cape Town, Northern Suburbs. This is a hybrid role (3 days on-site; 2 days WFH).

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our digital product team as an embedded execution partner, focused on consumer-facing web and mobile experiences. Working closely with the Product Manager, you will help translate strategic direction and product vision into polished, production-ready design across a portfolio of digital products that serve a large, global community.

This is a hands-on design role centred on real user journeys rather than systems or enterprise design. You will be designing for people navigating meaningful digital experiences, and your work should reflect a strong understanding of user behaviour and usability. You will take ownership of design execution end-to-end: from early concept exploration and generating variations through to detailed delivery and developer handover.

You will be working in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities, engaged stakeholders, and products that are continuously developing. The role will suit someone who can communicate design thinking clearly, maintain a strong focus on quality even when direction is still forming, and iterate with pace while staying thoughtful and considered.

Key Responsibilities:
Design Execution and Delivery:
  • Translate concepts and product briefs into high-fidelity, clickable prototypes across web and mobile: owning quality from first frame to final handover
  • Generate multiple design variations to explore different directions, giving stakeholders real options to respond to rather than a single interpretation
  • Prepare development-ready artboards with well-structured components, auto-layout, tokens, and annotated specs in Figma
  • Work within and extend existing design systems and component libraries, contributing to their evolution rather than bypassing them
  • Adapt to scope, sometimes conceiving new experiences from scratch, sometimes refining and improving what already exists
UX Research and User-Centred Design:
  • Apply a strong B2C sensibility to every design decision: designing for consumer behaviour, not internal workflows or back-office processes
  • Design mobile-first experiences with a thorough understanding of iOS and Android conventions, gesture patterns, and responsive behaviour across breakpoints
  • Bring knowledge of product-led growth (PLG) principles and apply them to onboarding flows, activation moments, and re-engagement patterns
  • Design with an understanding of A/B testing methodology, structuring interfaces so that hypotheses can be tested and validated
  • Demonstrate awareness of how design choices drive measurable user outcomes, and contribute to defining what success looks like for each feature or flow
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
  • Facilitate whiteboarding and discovery workshops and be comfortable shaping ambiguous briefs into well-defined design problems
  • Articulate design decisions clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing, by presenting rationale, not just deliverables
  • Author functional specs and design documentation that development teams can act on without requiring ongoing design involvement
  • Work constructively with demanding stakeholders. Must be able to prove design decisions, challenge briefs where appropriate, and navigate complexity
  • Challenge the status quo when the user experience demands it, rooting pushback in user needs and design principles rather than personal preference
AI Proficiency and Workflow Efficiency:
  • Demonstrate practical AI proficiency as a productivity tool that accelerates research synthesis, asset generation, and iteration speed
  • Identify and apply AI-powered tools to automate repetitive design tasks, integrated thoughtfully into a broader professional workflow
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field
  • 5+ years of digital product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating a clear focus on B2C web and mobile products
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, master components, variables/tokens, and design system governance
  • Demonstrable experience designing consumer-facing digital products: e-commerce, marketplaces, membership platforms, apps, or equivalent where user engagement and adoption were measurable outcomes
  • Working knowledge of A/B testing methodology and data-informed design iteration
  • Understanding of PLG principles and how design contributes to user acquisition, activation, and retention
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams and delivering production-ready design specifications
Skills Required:
  • High-fidelity UI design for responsive web and native mobile (iOS & Android)
  • Prototype creation and interactive flows in Figma
  • Design system contribution: components, tokens, documentation
  • Functional spec writing and developer handover
  • Workshop facilitation (Miro or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with analytics and behavioural data tools to inform design decisions
  • Self-starter. Must be able to interpret a brief and move with confidence without extensive direction
  • Quick-paced and delivery-focused, without compromising on design quality
  • User-centric by instinct: advocates for the end user even when internal pressure points elsewhere
  • Resilient: maintains momentum and continues iterating when concepts are challenged, deprioritised, or redirected
  • Clear communicator: able to root design arguments in evidence and translate them for non-design audiences
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, juggling competing priorities, and making sound decisions with incomplete information
  • Collaborative without being dependent: works well with engineering, product, and marketing stakeholders, but owns their design lane
Note: As all business roles require honesty in the handling of or access to cash, finances, financial systems, or confidential information, our recruitment process requires that the following background checks be completed: credit, criminal, ID, and qualification verification.

iqbusiness is committed to sustainable growth and transformation; we embrace diversity and employ previously disadvantaged individuals.
