SENIOR MOBILE CORE NETWORK ENGINEER
The Senior Mobile Core Network Engineer is responsible for planning, deploying, integrating, operating and optimising Powertel’s LTE and future 5G core network infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable and high-performance mobile services.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Mobile Core Planning and Design
Plans and dimensions LTE EPC and future 5G Core capacity based on subscriber growth, traffic demand and service requirements.
Develops mobile core architecture, redundancy, disaster recovery and expansion plans.
Plans subscriber licences, sessions, throughput, signalling capacity, APNs, IP address pools and QoS profiles.
Prepares technical specifications, bills of quantities and network design documentation.
Deployment and Integration
Installs, configures, commissions and integrates mobile core network elements, including MME, SGW, PGW, HSS, PCRF and related platforms.

Integrates the mobile core with the RAN, billing systems, charging platforms, internet gateways, enterprise networks and lot platforms.
Configures and supports S1, S5/S8, S6a, Gx, Gy, SGi and other relevant interfaces.
Supports LTE, 5G NSA and future 5G SA deployment.
Operations and Optimisation
Monitors core network availability, capacity, licences, sessions, bearer establishment and signalling performance.
Analyses core network KPIs and recommends upgrades before capacity thresholds are exceeded.
Performs subscriber provisioning, APN configuration, SIM authentication and QoS policy management.
Conducts software upgrades, patching, backups, restoration testing and system health checks.
Fault and Security Management

Diagnoses and resolves faults affecting subscriber attachment, authentication, data sessions and service access.
Performs end-to-end troubleshooting across the mobile core, IP network, RAN, billing and internet platforms.
Implements network hardening, access controls, security policies and change-management procedures.
Maintains accurate configuration, fault, capacity and operational records.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Electronic, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
Registration with the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers or another recognised professional body.
Valid Class 4 Zimbabwe Driver’s Licence.
At least four years’ relevant experience in mobile core network planning, deployment, integration or operations
Practical experience with LTE EPC, IP networking, routing, charging and subscriber management systems
Experience with ZTE ZXUN EPC or an equivalent mobile core platform is an added advantage.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES
Strong analytical and end-to-end troubleshooting skills
Sound understanding of LTE/5G radio and mobile core network architecture.
Good knowledge of IP networking, routing, transmission and network security
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
Strong project coordination, communication and interpersonal skills.
Customer-focused and results-oriented approach.
