The Senior Community Extension Officer (SCEO) plays a pivotal role in fostering community involvement in natural resource management, ensuring local people’s rights and participation in decisions affecting their livelihoods.

Reporting to the Community Development Manager, the SCEO acts as second-in-command within the Community Development Department. This position leads the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of community development programmes across the UWZGMA, including stakeholder engagement, environmental education, governance strengthening, and livelihood initiatives compatible with conservation goals.

Key Responsibilities for Senior Community Extension Officer Jobs in Kalabo Operational leadership:

• Lead community development establishment activities, stakeholder mapping, and community profiling to inform effective programme planning.

Stakeholder coordination:

• Build and maintain relationships with traditional authorities, Community Resource Boards, government agencies, NGOs, and local partners.

Department management:

Support the Community Development Manager by supervising staff including Community Extension Officers and Environmental Education Officers, coordinating work plans, and acting as manager in their absence.

Programme oversight:

• Ensure community development interventions are implemented according to plans and budgets, monitor progress, and recommend improvements.

Education and outreach:

• Coordinate conservation education in schools, support scholarship initiatives, and promote environmental awareness within communities.

Livelihood support:

• Facilitate community enterprise projects such as beekeeping, agrovet services, mango processing, and community tourism, enhancing governance and market linkages.

Safeguards implementation:

• Assist with the Land Use Plan, Grievance Redress Mechanism, and Environmental and Social Safeguards to ensure compliance and community protection.

Governance strengthening:

• Empower Village Action Groups, Community Resource Boards, and committees through training, transparent benefit-sharing, and guidance.

Monitoring and reporting:

• Maintain accurate records, track key performance indicators, and produce regular reports for management.

Communication:

• Develop newsletters, radio content, and outreach materials to promote conservation awareness.
• Essential Qualifications and Experience A degree in Conservation, Social Work, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in community engagement and project management.
• Proficiency in English communication and presentation; knowledge of Lozi is advantageous.
• Strong computer skills and ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
• Familiarity with local legislation, the Wildlife Act, and regional development opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and across cultures.
• Experience working in remote African settings with willingness to travel as required.
• Valid driver’s or rider’s license.
