Vacancy: Scientific Services Coordinator
Location: Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe

BACKGROUND
The Gonarezhou Conservation Trust (GCT) is a conservation partnership between the Zimbabwe Parks and
Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) and the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), established to manage
Gonarezhou National Park, one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic wilderness areas and its second largest national park.
Spanning over 5,000 km² in the south-east Lowveld, Gonarezhou forms a core part of the Great Limpopo
Transfrontier Conservation Area (GLTFCA).

ABOUT THE ROLE
GCT is seeking an experienced ecologist to lead its Scientific Services function, coordinate research and
monitoring programmes, manage research partnerships, and support evidence-based conservation
management. The role will report to the Senior Area Manager with key relationships with the resource
protection, tourism, grants and communications teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and develop the Scientific Services team and coordinate day-to-day field operations.
• Oversee ecological monitoring, wildlife surveys, data management, and reporting that will be used to
inform ecological management within the landscape
• Provide technical support and advice to the management team on park ecology and habitat and
wildlife management
• Build and manage relationships with research institutions, partners, donors, and regulatory
authorities, strategically expanding the ecological knowledge base in the park.
• Support fundraising, grant writing, and communication of scientific results to internal and external
audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• MSc in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years’ relevant experience in ecological monitoring, wildlife conservation, or applied research.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work in remote field conditions
• Strong leadership, project coordination, data analysis, and reporting skills is essential
• Experience living and working in the field in remote environments is an advantage.
