Scientific Officers X6 Positions – Scientific Officer Jobs in Lusaka The National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR), a government institution under the Ministry of Technology and Science, invites applications for multiple scientific officer jobs in Lusaka and other locations.

Established under the Science and Technology Act No. 26 of 1997, NISIR is mandated to initiate, promote, and conduct scientific, technological, and industrial research that directly benefits Zambian industry.

We seek qualified scientists across five specialised disciplines, welcoming both Zambian and international candidates to apply.

About the Scientific Officer Jobs in Lusaka and Other Locations These full-time positions are available at three research sites:

  • Lusaka, Chilanga, and Kitwe.

Available Disciplines and Duty Stations Food Science (1 post) – Lusaka Fields:

  • Food Science, Nutrition and Technology, or Human Nutrition.

Expertise:

  • Food science research including composition, quality, and safety testing analytical techniques.

Water & Environment (1 post) – Lusaka Fields:

  • Environmental Science or Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Integrated Water Resources Management, or Hydrology.

Expertise:

  • Water and environmental research with relevant analytical methods.

Biotechnology (1 post) – Chilanga Fields:

  • Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, or Organic Chemistry.

Expertise:

  • Plant physiology, molecular biology, phytochemistry, bioassays; tissue culture, genetics or metabolomics advantageous.

Natural Products (2 posts) – Kitwe Fields:

  • Organic Chemistry, Natural Products, Plant Science, Crop or Agricultural Science, Biological Science, or Environmental Science.

Expertise:

  • Extraction, characterisation, bioassay-guided evaluation; tissue culture, genetics or metabolomics advantageous.

Materials Science (1 post) – Lusaka Fields:

Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry or Solid-State Chemistry, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with battery specialisation, or Physics.

Expertise:

  • Nanomaterials, crystallography, thermal/mechanical properties, reaction engineering, electrochemical testing, XRD, SEM/TEM, Raman spectroscopy.
  • Key Responsibilities for Scientific Officers Plan, initiate, organise, and conduct scientific and industrial research in your area of specialisation.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret data relevant to your discipline.
  • Adapt research methods, techniques, and procedures to meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance scientific and industrial research.
  • Present research findings to stakeholders at conferences and other professional forums.
  • Develop and write high-quality research project proposals within your specialisation.
  • Provide guidance and advice to junior scientists in your field.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable standards and regulations during research activities.
  • Qualifications and Experience Required Master’s Degree in the relevant field for your discipline or a closely related area (mandatory).
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant research experience.
  • Proven publication record in your research area.
  • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary research projects.
  • Proficiency with analytical techniques pertinent to your field.
  • Additional Advantages Doctorate (PhD) in one of the listed fields is an advantage but not required; strong Master’s-level candidates with a solid research record are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in successful grant acquisition or research commercialisation.
  • Supervisory experience of postgraduate students or leadership in multi-institutional collaborations.
