Open Cast Mine Supervisor

Purpose of the Role
The Site Responsible Person / Mine Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day control, supervision and coordination of mining activities at the Mine. The role ensures that mining is carried out safely, within the approved working area, in line with management instructions, and with proper production and compliance records.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Supervision
- Supervise daily mining, loading, hauling and stockpiling activities.
- Ensure mining is carried out only within the authorised/licensed area.
- Coordinate operators, drivers, security and support staff on site.
- Ensure workers report to their designated work areas and follow instructions.
- Monitor daily progress against the mining plan and instructions from management.
- Ensure ore, waste and stockpiles are handled separately and correctly.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all workers and visitors comply with site safety rules.
- Stop any unsafe work immediately.
- Ensure PPE is worn by all workers and visitors in active work areas.
- Assist the HSE Compliance Officer with toolbox talks, inspections and incident reporting.
- Ensure no unauthorised persons enter the active mining area.
- Report accidents, incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions to management immediately.
Equipment and Site Control
- Ensure operators complete daily equipment pre-start checks.
- Report machinery breakdowns, defects or unsafe equipment.
- Ensure equipment is operated only by authorised and competent operators.
- Monitor fuel usage and report any irregularities.
- Ensure working areas, access roads and dumping areas are kept orderly and safe.
Production and Reporting
- Keep daily production records, including material mined, loads moved, stockpile updates and truck movements.
- Confirm daily ore and waste movement with the production clerk or dispatch record.
- Maintain communication with the geologist/grade control person on ore boundaries and material classification.
- Submit daily site reports to management.
Minimum Requirements
- Prior experience in mining, construction, earthmoving or site supervision.
- Basic understanding of open-pit mining operations.
- Ability to supervise operators, drivers and general workers.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to identify unsafe conditions and stop unsafe work.
- Must be reliable and present on site during active operations.
Preferred Requirements
- Previous experience in small-scale mining operations.
- Basic safety training.
- First aid training will be an advantage.
- Experience working with excavators, loaders, tippers or ADTs.
