Join our Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Maintenance Team at Lumwana Mine and contribute to maintaining critical mining infrastructure with a focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

About the Role:

Mechanical Technician Opportunities in Kalumbila As a Mechanical Technician reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for the repair, servicing, and maintenance of the mine’s dewatering pump fleet, which includes both diesel-driven and electric-powered pumps.

Your work will ensure that pit and sump water levels are effectively managed, enabling uninterrupted and safe mining operations.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Performing planned maintenance, inspections, servicing, and breakdown repairs on diesel and electric dewatering pumps across the open pit and water management systems.
• Disassembling, inspecting, rebuilding, and assembling pump components such as impellers, casings, shafts, bearings, and mechanical seals to OEM specifications.
• Diagnosing and repairing pump diesel engines, including fuel, cooling, lubrication, air intake, exhaust systems, turbochargers, and engine controllers.
• Maintaining mechanical components of electric pumps, collaborating with electricians on electrical isolations and fault diagnostics.
• Conducting shaft alignment, coupling replacements, vibration analysis, and priming system repairs.
• Inspecting and repairing pump skids, trailers, fuel tanks, hoses, pipework, valves, flanges, and HDPE pipe connections.
• Monitoring pump performance indicators such as flow, pressure, engine hours, and fuel consumption to detect wear or potential failures.
• Supporting pump and pipeline relocation, installation, and commissioning as water levels change, ensuring safe lifting and positioning practices.
• Responding promptly to pump breakdowns, especially during the rainy season, to minimize flooding and production interruptions.
• Accurately completing work orders, service sheets, parts usage logs, and pump hour records using SAP.
• Maintaining workshop and field housekeeping, managing fuel and oil handling responsibly, and preventing spills in compliance with environmental standards.
• Repairing and maintaining lighting plants, compressors, welding machines, lighting towers, and engines.

Requirements for Mechanical Technician Jobs in Kalumbila Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for this position:

• Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate.
• Minimum Craft Certificate in Mechanical Fitting, Electrical, or equivalent (TEVETA accredited).
• At least 3 years of experience maintaining various types of dewatering pumps in an open pit mining environment.

Proficiency with diesel-driven and electric-powered pumps, including centrifugal, submersible, and vacuum-assisted self-priming pumps, as well as lighting plants, compressors, welding machines, lighting towers, and engines.

Ability to interpret OEM manuals, pump performance curves, and mechanical drawings. Knowledge of shaft alignment, bearing fitting, and mechanical seal installation.

Familiarity with CMMS systems such as SAP is advantageous. Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) is preferred.

Possession of a valid Zambian driver’s license is an added advantage. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
