Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on production and packaging machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maximise plant availability.
- Install, assemble, align, and commission mechanical equipment.
- Overhaul pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, motors, valves, and other production equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and equipment servicing in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
- Complete maintenance documentation and update the CMMS system where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Assist with plant improvement projects, equipment modifications, and new machinery installations.
- Work closely with production teams to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Participate in standby, call-outs, and shift work when required.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Qualified Mechanical Fitter with a recognised Trade Test.
- N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years' post-trade experience in an FMCG, food manufacturing, or production environment.
- Strong knowledge of conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and packaging equipment.
- Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge will be advantageous.
- Experience working with preventative maintenance systems (CMMS) is beneficial.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and troubleshoot mechanical failures.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
