Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to
fill the following positions that have arisen in the Institute of Environment,
Climate & Sustainable Development at the University of Zimbabwe:

INFORMATICS MANAGER

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
The position requires an individual with:-

  • A Bachelors/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software
    Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology
    Management, Data Management, and Data Analytics.
  • Previous work experience in Environmental Data Management and/or
    Environmental Software development with strong analytical/ database
    skills.
  • Programing experience in C#, Java, C++, Python.
  • Experience with EarthSosft’s EQuIS Enterprise and Professional
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel and SQL server.
  • Experience with all aspects of software development lifecycle including
    design, development, testing and documentation.
  • Excellent organisational, writing and Communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be expected to carry out the following;

  • Data management and software development for environmental issues
    such as air quality, waste management and aquatic ecology including
    water quality monitoring.
  • Support the development and use of advanced database tools to
    streamline the organisation, evaluation and presentation of environmental
    data.
  • Support the integration of advanced database tools with computational and geographic information system (GIS) technologies to provide high-quality, consistent, timely and cost-effective risk assessment and analysis.
  • Development and implementation of data management standard
    operating procedures (SOPs) and electronic data deliverable (EDD)
    specification.
  • Development of software such as web applications, Data portals, data
    dashboards and desktop software.
  • Develop strategies for reporting, quality and compliance of data for topical
    environmental issues as required.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Director.
