We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to join our OEM engineering team specializing in the design and manufacture of end-of-line packaging equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical design, documentation, and support of automated packaging machinery, including power distribution, control systems, machine safety systems, and electrical manufacturing documentation.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience in industrial electrical design, with strong proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 and a solid understanding of machine automation, control systems, and applicable electrical and machine safety standards including CE and UKCA.
Key Responsibilities Electrical Design
Design electrical power distribution, control, and safety circuits for automated packaging machinery and production line equipment.
Develop complete electrical design packages using EPLAN Electric P8, including:
Electrical schematics
Control panel layouts
Terminal diagrams
Cable schedules
Bill of Materials (BOMs)
PLC and I/O documentation
Size and select electrical components, including:
Circuit breakers
Motor starters and drives
Power supplies
Safety relays and controllers
Sensors and field devices
Ensure designs comply with customer specifications, project requirements, and applicable standards.
Machine Safety
Design machine safety systems in accordance with relevant standards, including:
ISO 13849
IEC 60204-1
CE
UKCA
Participate in machine risk assessments and implement appropriate safety functions.
Project Execution
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
Participate in design reviews and provide technical input during project planning.
Assist with troubleshooting and resolving electrical design issues during production and commissioning.
Documentation and Standards
Maintain electrical design standards, templates, and libraries within EPLAN.
Generate and maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision records.
Ensure all project documentation is completed and released according to company procedures.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving design quality, efficiency, and standardization.
Customer and Supplier Interaction
Liaise with suppliers regarding technical specifications and component selection.
Provide technical support to customers, service teams, and commissioning personnel when required.
Support site installations and commissioning activities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Education
National Diploma, BTech, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent qualification in:
Electrical Engineering
Mechatronic Engineering
Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial electrical design engineering.
Experience designing electrical systems for machinery, automation equipment, or manufacturing systems.
Proven experience using EPLAN Electric P8 for electrical schematic design.
Required Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8.
Strong understanding of:
Electrical power distribution systems
Industrial control systems
PLC-based automation systems
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Servo systems
Industrial networking
Machine safety systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
Familiarity with electrical standards and regulations applicable to industrial machinery.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in packaging machinery, conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or OEM machine design.
Experience with PLC platforms such as:
Siemens
Delta
Omron
Allen-Bradley / Rockwell
Knowledge of safety PLCs and safety fieldbus systems.
Experience supporting machine commissioning and factory acceptance testing.
Knowledge of ERP and engineering document management systems.
