Role Overview:

• Chief Engineer Rock Mechanics Jobs in Solwezi The Chief Rock Engineer will lead all aspects of ground control and rock engineering practices at the mine.
• This senior role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring geotechnical strategies that guarantee safety, regulatory compliance, and optimized mine design and extraction.
• The position plays a pivotal role in mine planning, risk management, and sustaining the long-term geotechnical stability of the Trident operations.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership:

• Lead and mentor the Rock Engineering Department, aligning ground control strategies with production and safety objectives.
• Maintain strong relationships with mining operations, consultants, and contractors.

Geotechnical Risk Management:

• Identify and manage geotechnical hazards, oversee ground support systems, and conduct risk assessments and audits.

Technical Oversight:

• Provide expert guidance on stope layouts, excavation stability, and seismicity.
• Ensure geotechnical designs meet safety and legal standards, and validate data to support mine planning.

Monitoring and Reporting:

• Oversee geotechnical instrumentation installation and data analysis.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to leadership and stakeholders.

Regulatory Compliance:

• Ensure adherence to local mining laws and occupational health and safety legislation.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

• Implement new technologies to enhance geotechnical performance and foster a culture of safety and learning.
• Qualifications and Experience BSc, BEng, or BTech in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering; MSc or MEng in related fields is advantageous.
• Mandatory Chamber of Mines Rock Engineering Certificate.
• Registration with a recognized professional body.
• Blasting License is a plus.
• Minimum 8 to 10 years of rock engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role.
• At least 5 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering within open pit mining.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Pronto, and numerical modelling software such as Rocscience Suite, FLAC, Phase2, and RS3.
• Skills and Behavioral Competencies Strong analytical and technical expertise in rock mechanics and numerical modelling.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and coaching abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure.

• Operational Responsibilities Ensure compliance with company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, risk assessments, and presentations.
